vRealize Operations Tenant App for vCloud Director 2.0 reset root password

vRealize Operations Tenant App for vCloud Director 2.0 is build on top of Photon OS, you can’t use the same standard procedure you know from Linux distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu or RedHat.

In the vSphere Client, open the console of the node and restart your vRealize Operations Tenant appliance and wait for the Photon OS Splash screen during boot

When the GRUB loader menu appears, immediately hit e to enter boot menu and navigate to the following option:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server {version} for VMware

Add the following string behind the line that starts with cmdline: rw init=/bin/bash

Press F10 function key to boot the changed entry.

Reset the root password

The virtual appliance starts in single-user mode. Enter: passwd 

Enter a strong password twice and remember it.

umount /

reboot -f

After the virtual appliance restarts, you can log in using the new password
