For many years, I worked closely with VMware products. I supported customers, solved complex technical problems, and became a trusted reference within my team. From the outside, it looked like I was already where I needed to be.
Yet, when I first considered applying to the vExpert Program, I hesitated.
That first application was the most challenging one. Not because I lacked experience, but because I lacked confidence. Writing about my own contributions felt uncomfortable. I was used to doing the work quietly, focusing on outcomes rather than visibility.
What I didn’t expect was that the application itself would become a turning point.
Taking the time to write my vExpert application forced me to pause and reflect. As I documented projects, community involvement, and knowledge sharing, I began to recognise the impact of the work I had been doing for years. The process helped me acknowledge my own growth and contributions … something I had rarely done before.
That moment, even before receiving any recognition, was already transformative.
When I was awarded vExpert for the first time, it became a milestone in my career. It wasn’t just a badge or a title. It was validation. It was visibility. And it was the beginning of a new chapter.
The vExpert Program opened the door to an incredible global community of professionals. Through it, I strengthened my technical confidence with customers, colleagues, and peers. I gained access to conversations, events, and insights that helped me better understand the technical landscape and the direction of VMware products. Those experiences allowed me to engage in more meaningful roadmap discussions with customers and partners.
Beyond the technical impact, vExpert pushed me to be a better version of myself.
It encouraged me to connect, to give back, and to share lessons learned with the community. It also unlocked a creative side I hadn’t fully explored before. Writing became more than explaining how to fix a problem, it became about choosing the right words so that someone else could benefit from that knowledge.
I clearly remember long nights of troubleshooting, exhausted, searching for answers, and finding solutions in blog posts written by other vExperts. Those articles saved me time, reduced frustration, and reminded me that I wasn’t alone. Today, I hope that my own articles or talks have done the same for someone else.
To anyone who has never applied to the vExpert Program, especially those who hesitate because they fear exposure or don’t feel “ready,” I want to say this:
the application process itself is already a win.
It is an opportunity to give visibility to your contributions, to step out of the shadows, and to recognise the value of the work you do every day. Yes, it contributes to your personal brand, but more importantly, it opens doors, doors to new professional opportunities, deeper connections with customers, partners, and experts, and a community that will enrich your journey in ways you may not yet imagine.
